How Reflexology Relieves Back Pain

Reflexology can treat even the most chronic back pain issues. The science of using reflexes to treat specific parts of the body is known as reflexology. With reflexology you can offer your body the healing it needs and you can get improvement in pain when you go for a few sessions. It is a quick working and effective technique.

?

Book Body Massage London Online Now- Back Pain Problems

?

Back problems are healed when reflexology is used to optimize lymph flow and blood circulation. People with Multiple Sclerosis can use this mode of treatment as well when they suffer from back pain due to the disorder. Sometimes back pain doesn?t require much more than a weakness of muscles in that area but the pain resulting from such a simple problem can be drastic. Most non specific back pain relates to such problems which can be cured by reflexology. Back pain like that can also be caused due to bad posture and a sedentary lifestyle. If your pain nerves are activated you will be in serious pain and the level you feel may be different from what someone else feels. ?

?

Medical Reflexology

?

When it comes to medical reflexology you have to realize that it is not going to be relaxing like the kind of reflexology massages you would expect at a body massage London place or a spa. Clinical reflexology treatments can actually be a little painful in the beginning because you will not be used to the pressure being applied so intensely. But that is the only way you can get cure and a good reflexologist will vary the pressure according to a patient?s pain threshold. Applying pressure to congested areas to regulate flow is the main concept. To get the right results, reflexologist will apply a specific amount of pressure. There are no long lasting side effects or pain with this treatment. ?

?

Fast Recovery

?

If you go for session often in the beginning, reflexology can treat the problem very fast. As a general rule, forty minute sessions are advised but the therapists may alter that according to age. To ensure the benefits of the treatment are long lasting, the first few sessions should be timed close together. If you want a pain free body you need to make this effort. Once those initial treatments are done even chronic and acute pain sufferers can find relief from pain for a long time. For those who are pressed for time, even ten minute session every day could help instead of waiting to spare forty minutes. ?

?

While everyone gets relief from reflexology, the time period may vary from person to person. In some patients, pain may be harder to treat than others. For relaxation purposes, you don?t need medical reflexology but instead a foot reflexology massage from a body massage London place would be better. Pearl London provides body massage London!

Dem predicts Obama, GOP will strike deal on immigration in 2013

A prominent Hispanic lawmaker is predicting that President Obama and a weakened Republican Party will strike a deal on immigration next year.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez said he?s received no promises from the White House that Obama would move quickly on immigration reform if reelected in November. But the Illinois Democrat said it?s a lock the president would use a second term to revamp the nation?s immigration laws.

Such changes have been a third rail in Washington for most of the last decade, as President George W. Bush couldn?t overcome Republican opposition to his comprehensive immigration reform plan.

Gutierrez predicted the results of November?s elections would prove a game changer, as the sheer number of Latinos voting against Mitt Romney will force GOP leaders to support reforms for fear of alienating those voters indefinitely.

?I?m absolutely positive he?s going to [prioritize immigration reform],? Gutierrez said Friday of Obama, ?because the Republicans are going to take such a beating in this election that they?re going to propose [their own plan].?

Romney is working hard to ensure such a beating doesn?t happen, reaching out to Latino voters in a series of recent speeches, Spanish-language ads and interviews with the Hispanic press.

?We?re not going to round up people around the country and deport them,? Romney said Thursday in remarks that were a sharp contrast to the hard-line enforcement focus he adopted during the GOP primaries. ?We need to provide a long-term solution.?

He?s also attacking Obama for not passing immigration reform in his first term, saying the president ?never tried to fix the immigration system.?

Still, Romney?s campaign says he needs 38 percent of the Latino vote to secure a victory, and recent polls put the figure closer to 30 percent.

Romney said earlier this year that unless he does better among Hispanics, his campaign is doomed.

Obama has seized on his advantage, launching a new program this summer foregoing deportations for qualified illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.

Asked if the White House has informed him of an immigration strategy for next year, Gutierrez gave an emphatic ?no.?

?We have not had conversations,? said Gutierrez, who backed Obama over Hillary Clinton.

Gutierrez has not been shy in criticizing Obama for not prioritizing immigration reform in his first term. In 2010, a frustrated Gutierrez went so far as to suggest Latino voters may not show up at the polls.

?We can stay home,? Gutierrez said at the time. ?We can say, ?You know what? There is a third option. We can refuse to participate.??

Two years later, Gutierrez is all in for Obama.

With polls showing Latinos favor Obama over Romney by a large margin, Gutierrez said GOP leaders will be likely, post-election, to heed Republicans like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), who are calling on the party to embrace immigration reform or risk losing the Latino vote for years to come.

?The political reality is that the Jeb Bushes, the Marco Rubios and the people like them are going to be empowered after this election,? Gutierrez said.

Late last month, Bush said Republicans aren?t going to close the gap with Hispanic voters until they ?stop acting stupid.?

Behind Gutierrez, Hispanic Democrats have been critical of Obama?s track record on immigration reform since he took the White House. On the campaign trail in 2008, then-Sen. Obama had ?guaranteed? he?d fight for comprehensive immigration reform during his first year as president.

?I want to move that forward as quickly as possible,? he said at the time.

Four years later, however, the nation?s immigration laws remain unchanged, as Republican opposition to the Democrats? reform proposals ? combined with a focus on the economy, healthcare reform and now November?s elections ? all diluted Obama?s efforts to pass an overhaul.

In an interview with Univision on Thursday, Obama blamed Republicans for flip-flopping on immigration reform to ensure it didn?t pass under his watch. But he also conceded that he bears some of the blame, characterizing the issue as ?his biggest failure.?

?As you remind me, my biggest failure so far is we haven?t gotten comprehensive immigration reform done,? he said, ?so we?re going to be continuing to work on that.?

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said Obama?s mea culpa will go a long way to build support in the Hispanic community.

?It?s a tough thing to say, for him, that it was a disappointment,? Grijalva said. ?But it was very honest and very straight up, and I think a lot of people appreciated that.?

Obama won 67 percent of the Latino vote in 2008. Conservative Republicans, however, aren?t convinced Romney?s numbers will be as low as Sen. John McCain?s (R-Ariz.).

?I don?t think they?ll be as bad,? Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) said Friday. ?I think we?re gonna pick up votes in the Latino and every community.?

Still, some GOP strategists argue that a Romney loss in November would likely push Republicans to walk back their hard line on immigration reform.

"If Republicans lose, it will be part for a failure to attract Hispanic votes," Mark McKinnon, former aide to President George W. Bush, said Saturday in an e-mail. "And a positive outcome would be a likely softening on immigration reform."

McCain was a proponent of immigration reform during George W. Bush?s administration. He subsequently shifted right, emphasizing border control when he faced a primary challenge in 2010.

Gutierrez said he?ll spend much of the next six weeks campaigning for Obama in three battleground states where the Latino vote is expected to play a crucial role: Nevada, Colorado and Florida.

?If I?m right, and the road to the White House goes through the barrios of the United States ? through Nevada and Colorado and Florida ? and it?s the Latino vote that swings the Electoral College,? he said Friday, then immigration reform will be impossible to ignore next year.

The Illinois Democrat also had some advice for Obama?s first act in a second term:

?Go to Camp David, invite Marco Rubio out, and say, ?Bring whoever else you want [and] let?s figure this out.??

JWoww and Roger Mathews: Engaged!!

JWoww and Roger Mathews are engaged.

The reality star's longtime boyfriend proposed to her last week, and it was all filmed for Jersey Shore spinoff Snooki & JWoww. Because Roger's proposal was among the more elaborate ones you'll ever see, though, the cat's out of the bag.

How did it go down, exactly?

JWoww and Roger Mathews

Roger Mathews popped the question to the reality star when they were skydiving, according to WetPaint, which quotes a production insider as saying:

"It happened the middle of last week during filming for season two of Snooki & JWOWW ... (JWOWW) and Roger went skydiving and jumped out of a plane together. After landing securely, Roger shocked her by getting down on one knee and proposing."

"Of course, she said yes!”

As for Jenni's ring, "It's beautiful!" said the insider, "and big." Just don't expect to see it anytime soon, as the big reveal is being saved for her MTV show:

“The crew took great pains to make sure they weren’t followed; the footage is being kept tightly under wraps. Everyone will have to wait to see it.”

Snooki & JWoww was recently picked up for Season 2. Congrats to JWoww and Roger, assuming this report is true! What a way to get engaged.

Feeding Responses of Pacific Snappers (genus Lutjanus) to the Yellow-bellied Sea Snake (Pelamis platurus) : Behavior Biology - BioStor

ZOOLOGICAL SCIENCE 5: 443-448 (1988) ? 1988 Zoological Society of Japan Feeding Responses of Pacific Snappers (genus Lutjanus) to the Yellow-bellied Sea Snake (Pelamis platurus) Paul J. Weldon Department of Biology, Texas A & M University, College Station, TX 77843, U.S.A. ABSTRACT ? Previous studies indicate that Pacific fishes refuse to attack the yellow-bellied sea snake (Pelamis platurus). Visual and non-visual cues are thought to be used to identify this snake. Three species of Pacific snappers -Lutjanus aratus, L. argentiventris, and L. guttatus -were tested for reactions to pieces or extracts of P. platurus. Snappers presented with carcass pieces of a variety of stimulus animals regurgitated P. platurus more than others; one experiment was inconclusive. Snappers presented in darkness with pieces of stimulus animals attached to clips removed fewer P. platurus pieces than those of other species. Pieces of P. platurus skin were regurgitated more frequently, and removed from clips less frequently, than were pieces of skinned carcass or control animals. Large pieces (5.0 g) of P. platurus were regurgitated and rejected more often than were small pieces (1.3 g). Snappers regurgitated and rejected fish pieces treated with a chloroform: methanol extract of P. platurus more than pieces treated with solvent alone. This study indicates that snappers detect chemicals from this snake. INTRODUCTION The yellow-bellied sea snake (Pelamis platurus) is found from the west coast of Central America to the east coast of Africa [1]. Although predation pressure in tropical Pacific waters is notoriously intense [2], no species has been observed to eat this highly venomous, pelagic serpent. A couple of presumed predators (rather than scavengers) have regurgitated P. platurus [3, 4], but stomach con- tent analyses of a variety of predatory fishes -457 fishes representing 25 species from Panama [1], 186 dolphins (Stenella spp.) and 79 tuna (Thunnus albacores) from the eastern Pacific [5], approx- imately 1000 sharks (mostly Carcharhinus falcifor- mis) from Baja California to Costa Rica (S. Kato, pers. comm.), and thousands of sharks from around Australia [6, 7] -failed to indicate this snake's remains. Heatwole [6] inspected 19 species of marine snakes in Australian waters for pre- dator-induced injuries and found that P. platurus was the only amply represented species that lacked any sign of attacks by fishes. Wounds in P. Accepted October 20, 1987 Received February 26, 1987 platurus from the eastern Pacific have been documented, but at least some of these appear to be man-made rather than caused by would-be predators [8]. Observations of the reactions of birds and predatory fishes to P. platurus indicate that this snake is avoided. Naive herons and egrets in Panama presented with several eels, a terrestrial snake, and P. platurus fled only from the latter [9]. A variety of teleost and elasmobranch fishes refused to attack P. platurus or regurgitated pieces of this snake if they were ingested [10]. The cues by which potential predators recognize sea snakes have not been studied systematically, but several authors suggest that the conspicuous yellow (ventral) and black (dorsal) coloration of P. platurus acts as an aposematic signal [1,6, 10, 11]. Rubinoff and Kropach [10] state that other cues also may be involved since snake pieces were rejected by Pacific fishes even after the snakes' color patterns had been modified with marking pens, when snakes were skinned, and when snake pieces were wrapped in squid flesh. Rubinoff and Kropach [10] suggest that fishes identify snakes by chemical cues. This study examines the feeding reactions of

Shakesville: Today in Out of Control Fatties

[Content Note: Fat hatred; dehumanization.]

Currently on the front page of CNN.com, under featured articles:

a screenshot of the featured articles section in which I've highlighted a photo cropped to show just a fat man's belly accompanied by a headline reading: 'Overheard: Whose fault is obesity?'

Yes, whose FAULT is obesity? Who can be BLAMED for the existence of fat people? Obviously, SOMEONE needs to take responsibility for the TERRIBLE SCOURGE of fat people living on this planet!

At the actual story link, the fault-seeking headline is repeated, as is the headless fatty photo, cropped to show a fat man adjusting his belt around his fish-eyed fat belly, because a story about the plague of fatties isn't complete without a dehumanizing image that reduces fat people to nothing but our insidious blubber.

Following is a "round table" about how fat people are a drain on society blah blah yawn "these expanding waistlines will translate into billions of dollars of health care costs." Allegedly. What will certainly translate into billions of dollars of health care costs is an aging populace, although there are precious few articles on CNN or anywhere else wondering who is to blame for aging or how to stop it, despite the fact it makes approximately the same amount of sense to tell people to stop aging as it does to tell them to stop being fat.

This is not true for everyone, but it is true for me and it is true for a fuckload of fat people: My diet and exercise have varied significantly over the last decade, but my weight hasn't. The only thing that changes is my fitness, which is not reflected in my weight.

I can get fitter, and do, without getting thinner. (I can also lose fitness without getting fatter!) It really is just as absurd to tell me to stop being fat as it is to tell me to stop aging.

Yet my fat is still treated like a moral failing. Someone for which someone needs to take some blame.

Here's a fun game: Next time you see a bunch of progressives talking about "the obesity epidemic" under the auspices of being concerned about fat people's "health," count the number of times something they say about fat people and personal responsibility and what a drain we are on the healthcare system and how we ruin insurance rates/food accessibility/airplane rides/everything for thin people, sounds exactly like Mitt Romney talking about poor people and personal responsibility and what a drain they are on the social safety net and how they ruin everything for rich people.

Poor Fat people are just lazy with no personal responsibility and can never be convinced to take care of their own lives bodies.

I hear people who loathe Mitt Romney and his contempt for people in whose shoes he's never walked say the same shit about fat people all the time, without a trace of irony.

Where does dark energy come from? New simulation could reveal origins.

Using the world's third-fastest computer, researchers seek to explain dark energy by running a simulation of the universe, from the Big Bang to the present day.?

By Clara Moskowitz,?SPACE.com / September 12, 2012

Large-scale structures in the universe form over time in these stills from a supercomputer simulation of the evolution of the universe.

Habib et al./Argonne National Lab

Scientists would love to be able to rewind the universe and watch what happened from the start. Since that's not possible, researchers must create their own mini-universes inside computers and unleash the laws of physics on them, to study their evolution.

'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // -->

Now researchers are planning the most detailed, largest-scale simulation of this kind to date. One of the main mysteries they hope to solve with it is the origin of the?dark energy?that's causing the?universe to accelerate in its expansion.

The new simulation is a project led by physicists Salman Habib and Katrin Heitmann of Illinois' Argonne National Laboratory, and will run on the lab's Mira supercomputer, the third-fastest computer in the world, starting in the next month or two. The program will use hundreds of millions of "particles" ? elements in the simulation that stand in for small bits of matter. The computer will let time run, and watch as the particles move through space in response to the forces acting on them.

As the simulation progresses, these bits of matter will clump together under gravity to form larger and larger blobs representing galaxies, galaxy clusters and superclusters. To evolve the universe from the Big Bang 13.7 billion years forward to today, the simulation will take up to two weeks. [Video: Simulation of the Universe from Big Bang to Now]

Testing the theory

The ultimate goal is to compare the best telescope observations of structure in the universe to the structure displayed in the computer model, to test the reigning theory of cosmology.

"We are trying to look for subtle ways in which it's wrong," Habib told SPACE.com. "That?s why you need these very high-resolution, very large-scale simulations to see if the observations don't match the predictions."

Dark energy is the name given to whatever is causing the?expansion of the universe?to accelerate. When this acceleration was first discovered in the 1990s, it shocked the science community, because theories predicted the universe's expansion would be steady or slowing down, because of the inward pull of gravity.

The current reigning theory posits that dark energy is what's called?the cosmological constant, a term Einstein first thought to put into his equations of general relativity to represent the vacuum energy of the universe. Although Einstein ultimately decided not to include the term, scientists later realized that it could explain the current observations of the expansion of the universe.

However, cosmologists aren't satisfied with this explanation, Habib said.

Another possibility

"It's just a single number entered as an extra term in the equations," he said. "The problem is that if you ask what its value should be, it's enormous ? many orders of magnitude bigger than what is actually observed."

While simulations based on the cosmological constant so far appear to match what's seen in large-scale observations of the universe, scientists think that next-generation observations may reveal discrepant details.

If a cosmological constant is not to blame for the accelerated expansion of the universe, another possibility is that space contains some other type of mass or energy, such as a field, that is pulling everything apart.

"It's basically guesswork; it could be like this, or it could be like that," Habib said. "Either way it's very interesting."

Surviving without ice: Arctic crustaceans use currents, deep-water migration to survive sea ice melts

ScienceDaily (Sep. 13, 2012) ? With sea ice in the Arctic melting to record lows in summer months, marine animals living there face dramatic changes to their environment. Yet some crustaceans, previously thought to spend their entire lives on the underside of sea ice, were recently discovered to migrate deep underwater and follow ocean currents back to colder areas when ice disappears.

"Our findings provide a basic new understanding of the adaptations and biology of the ice-associated organisms within the Arctic Ocean," said Mark Moline, director of the University of Delaware's School of Marine Science and Policy in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment. "They also may ultimately change the perception of ice fauna as imminently threatened by the predicted disappearance of perennial sea ice."

Moline, J?rgen Berge of the University of Troms? and Norwegian colleagues found the crustaceans, specifically amphipods Apherusa glacialis that resemble small shrimp, well below sea ice during a rare winter, nighttime research expedition to the Fram Strait and Eurasian section of the Arctic Ocean. They determined that the crustaceans migrate downward as part of their life cycles and ride deep-ocean currents toward the North Pole.

The crustaceans' travels appear to be an adaptive trait that both increases survival during ice-free periods and enables them to be retained in the Arctic Ocean.

The scientists refer to their findings as the "Nemo hypothesis," based on an analogy to the Disney movie Finding Nemo in which Nemo's father uses deep-ocean currents for transportation. In a similar mechanism, Arctic crustaceans detached from melting sea ice move into depths where the northernmost branch of the Gulf Stream System effectively transports them back into the Arctic Ocean.

Previously, these organisms were generally considered to be passively exported either out the Fram Strait or down to inhabitable depths when released from melting sea ice -- either of which would be life-threatening outcomes as they lost the habitat on which they depend to survive.

"Through the Nemo hypothesis, we offer a new and exciting perspective that, although still based on a limited dataset, might change our perception of the ice-associated organisms and their future in an Arctic Ocean potentially void of summer sea ice within the next few decades," Berge said.

From an evolutionary perspective, the migration may be an adaptation that allowed survival in a more seasonally ice-covered Arctic, as experienced several times during the last 12,000 years. Some reports indicate that the Arctic Ocean lacked summer sea ice as late as 8,000 years ago.

The findings may help explain how ice-associated organisms can survive in large populations in the Arctic when their habitat is annually reduced by up to 80 percent in the summer before re-forming in the early winter.

"We believe that this is an important contribution towards a more comprehensive understanding of potential consequences of a continued warming of the Arctic and the predicted loss of summer sea ice," Berge said.

The article was published in Biology Letters online on Sept. 12. The work was funded primarily by the Research Council of Norway, with support for Moline provided by the U.S.-Norway Fulbright Program through his role as Distinguished Arctic Chair.

U.N. nuclear governors censure Iran over atom bomb concerns

VIENNA (Reuters) - The 35-nation board of the U.N. nuclear watchdog censured Iran on Thursday for defying international demands to curb uranium enrichment and failing to address mounting disquiet about its suspected research into atomic bombs.

Two days after Israel ramped up threats to attack its arch-enemy Iran, the board overwhelmingly passed a resolution voicing "serious concern" about Tehran's nuclear advances but also making clear its desire for a peaceful resolution of the row.

Russia and China joined four U.S.-led Western powers in sponsoring the resolution to display big power unity on Iran.

Only Cuba voted against. Three countries, including Egypt, abstained, according to diplomats who took part in the closed-door meeting at International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters in Vienna.

"The diplomatic pressure on Iran is increasing. The isolation is increasing," U.S. envoy Robert Wood said.

But Iran's envoy to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, said such resolutions were counterproductive. Iran has sallied ahead with its nuclear programme despite a series of similar resolutions since 2006 as well as harsh economic sanctions.

The difference now, though, is that the need for a diplomatic breakthrough is becoming urgent given Israel's increasingly strident demand that Iran be set a deadline to cooperate or risk the Jewish state launching air strikes that many fear could ignite a devastating Middle East war.

"It (the IAEA resolution) will only complicate the situation and jeopardize the cooperative environment which we desperately need," Soltanieh told reporters after the vote.

The resolution faults Iran for ignoring U.N. Security Council calls on it to suspend uranium enrichment - a conduit to producing fuel for nuclear power stations or bombs - and open up to investigations of signs that it seeks nuclear arms know-how.

Six world powers had tabled a resolution text on Wednesday, aiming to raise pressure on Iran to relent, a day after Israel signaled it was almost out of patience with the use of diplomacy and sanctions to try to rein in the Islamic Republic.

South Africa, like Iran a member of the Non-Aligned Movement of mostly developing nations, earlier plunged the meeting into confusion by putting forward an amendment which some Western diplomats said might have weakened the language towards Iran.

But a compromise was hammered out during a three-hour adjournment of the meeting, the diplomats said, satisfying the United States, Russia, France, China, Britain and Germany.

The amendment concerned a section of the text demanding that Iran immediately implement a yet-to-be agreed framework accord with the IAEA on how the agency should conduct its investigation into suspected nuclear explosives research in the Islamic state.

The compromise changed the original text but not as far as the South African proposal, easing Western fears that it could lower the heat on Tehran to come clean with IAEA sleuths.

STYMIED INVESTIGATION

The IAEA has tried in a series of high-profile meetings with Iran that began in January to agree a "Structured Approach" on how to carry out its inquiry. IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano said this week that no concrete results had been achieved, calling the lack of progress "frustrating".

"Iran has not engaged seriously and without preconditions in talks aimed at restoring international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme," the 27-nation European Union said in a statement to the board.

"Iran's procrastination is unacceptable," the bloc said.

Wood, the U.S. envoy, accused Iran of "systematically demolishing" a facility at the Parchin military site that IAEA inspectors want to visit as part of their investigation.

"Iran has been taking measures that appear consistent with an effort to remove evidence of its past activities at Parchin," he told the board gathering.

Soltanieh dismissed what he called the "noise about cleaning" and "distorted information" about Parchin, a vast military complex southeast of Tehran where the IAEA suspects Iran has carried out explosives tests relevant for atom bombs.

Iran says it wants to produce electricity from enriched uranium and not bombs. Refined uranium can be used to fuel nuclear power plants. If enriched to a high degree, it can provide the explosive core for a nuclear warhead.

Israel, believed to be the Middle East's only nuclear-armed state, sees the danger of Iran developing an atom bomb as a threat to its existence and has stepped up hints of air strikes on Iranian nuclear installations.

But Benjamin Netanyahu's deputy for intelligence and atomic affairs, Dan Meridor, on Thursday publicly disagreed with the Israeli prime minister's call for Iran to be confronted with a "red line" beyond which its disputed nuclear programme would face military attack.

He called for international sanctions against Tehran to be intensified "so it understands that the price it is paying is mounting and that the only way to be rid of it is to stop the (nuclear) race, to arrive at an agreement, or an international understanding, that it is calling it quits".

Meridor, part of Netanyahu's inner security cabinet, took a more moderate view of a nuclear-armed Iran than the premier, who has likened that prospect to a second Holocaust.

"I don't want to speak in apocalyptic ... Holocaust terms," said Meridor. "I think that we are strong and we will overcome the challenges, but this is a serious challenge."

The United States, Israel's main ally, says there is still time for diplomacy and sanctions to make Iran, one of the world's largest oil exporters, change course.
